WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Elizabeth Collins, one of the missing Evansdale cousins, is being laid to rest this weekend.

The funeral service is taking place at Waterloo Memorial. It is open to the public, as other services and memorials for Elizabeth have been.

This funeral service was not possible before Saturday as the state medical examiner was conducting on autopsy on both Elizabeth and her cousin, Lyric Cook, whose bodies were found in December.

Elizabeth and Lyric disappeared in July from Meyers Lake in Evansdale. After an exhaustive search, the girls' bodies were found accidentally by hunters in a secluded part of a Bremer County wildlife area.

Authorities still won't say if they have any significant leads pointing to a suspect.

Heather Collins, Elizabeth's mother, posted this message on Facebook:

"We are having this ... open to the public. We feel that everyone in the community has given us such ... support and has taken her as part of their child (so) we want everyone to have that chance to do the last unbearable step in putting her body in the ground.

"This will just one more step in the healing process, not that this will be any easier but we know with family and friends we get thru this step."
