INDEPENDENCE (KWWL) -

A fire that began in a motor home while it was traveling on the road led to the total loss of the vehicle Tuesday afternoon.

The Buchanan County Sheriff's Office were called to Dugan Avenue just north of 240th Street just before 4 p.m. Tuesday for a motor home on fire.

The driver, Justin Temeyer of Independence, told deputies he was traveling northbound on Dugan Avenue when the interior of the motor home began to fill with smoke.

Temeyer pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and escaped unharmed. There were no other occupants of the vehicle.

Jesup and Independence fire departments were called to put out the fire, which had fully engulfed the motor home.

The motor home -- a white 1990 Sun Clipper -- was considered a total loss.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
