Man recovering after van crashes into a creek on Interstate 380

A Cedar Rapids man is recovering after the van he was driving crashed into a creek Sunday afternoon.

It happened shortly before 4:30. Authorities say it happened near mile-marker 62. An investigation determined 20-year-old William Bloomhall of Cedar Rapids was driving northbound when he reached for a CD on the floor. Authorities say he then veered into the median south of a bridge. He then veered left to avoid the guardrail and crossed into the southbound lane of traffic. The van then hit a curb, flipped and landed in a creek.

Bloomhall was treated at the scene for minor injuries, but eventually taken to the hospital. There is no update on his current status. Waterloo Fire Department Hazmat crews were on scene trying to contain the fluids spilling out of the van into the creek as well.
