Two Cyclones, one Hawkeye taken on final day of draft

The phones started ringing on Saturday.  Through the first two days of the draft, no Iowa or State players had been selected in the NFL draft.  That changed in the 5th round.

Iowa State's A.J. Klein was the first to go.  Klein was taken as the 148th overall pick and was selected by the Carolina Panthers.  The all-big 12 linebacker tallied a staggering 385 tackles in his last 3 seasons.

Iowa's Micah Hyde was the next one to get the call.  Hyde was chosen by the Green Bay Packers just 11 picks later.  In 2012, he picked up 78 tackles, 14 pass break-ups, and one interception while being selected to the all-Big 10 first team.

Carter Bykowski, a senior Iowa State tackle was selected by San Francisco in the 7th round.

Several athletes that went undrafted signed free agent contracts on Saturday:

James Vandenberg (QB-Iowa) Minnesota

Josh Lenz (WR-ISU) Chicago

Jake Knott (LB-ISU) Philadelphia

Jake McDonough (OL-ISU) NY Jets

Terrell Sinkfield (WR-UNI) Miami
