"Makers" show off their talents in Cedar Rapids

Inventors, artists and crafters were all on hand Saturday afternoon at the second annual Mini-Maker Faire in Cedar Rapids.

A "maker" is simply someone who makes things. Makers from across Iowa brought their goods to the faire inside Lindale Mall.

There were all kinds of displays including crafts, a bicycle that doubled as a musical instrument, and a tool that could color with markers all on its own.

"They love to show and tell about their creations and so it's just an outlet for them," said Norah Hammond, Executive Director of the Cedar Rapids Science Center. "We think it's pretty cool and it's also related to science, technology, engineering, and math which is of course what we do at the Science Center."

The faire was a partnership between the Cedar Rapids Science Center and The Epicenter, which is a Cedar Rapids group that helps makers meet other makers.
