CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Many Eastern Iowa law enforcement agencies joined forces Saturday for National Drug Take Back Day.

People were able to drop off expired, unused, or unwanted prescription and over the counter drugs with no questions asked. The goals are to make sure the medications are disposed of properly and to prevent drug misuse or abuse.

"It's a good resource for the community to dispose of old or expired medications that may otherwise be disposed of improperly, either flushed down the toilet or simply thrown in the trash," aid Major Gerald Hansel of the Linn County Sheriff's Office.

During an October take-back, Americans turned in 244 tons worth of prescription drugs.
