CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Six people escaped a house fire Friday night in Cedar Rapids.

It happened around 11 p.m. at 1132 White Ivy Place Northeast. The home is owned by Discovery Living, which provides assisted living to adults with intellectual disabilities.

A staff member heard a popping noise, smelled smoke and saw flames on the roof.

The staff member helped get the five other people out of the home safely.

"They were a little nervous," said Carol Saddoris, Director of Residential Services. "We had one gentleman who was a little nervous because he really wanted his Pokemon DVD which they were able to bring out to him. Most of the guys have gone home with their families for a couple days.

Discovery Living will move the residents to a temporary home to keep them on their regular routine.

Firefighters contained the fire to the attic after part of the ceiling collapsed. It's believed the fire started at the front porch light but an exact cause isn't known yet.
