Marv Diemer, former Iowa lawmaker dies, at 88

The Cedar Valley has lost a dedicated supporter.

Former Iowa lawmaker, Marv Diemer of Cedar Falls, has died. Diemer died Tuesday at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. He was 88.

Marv Diemer was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, and served in the Iowa Legislature, representing Cedar Falls, from 1978 until 1992. Governor Terry Branstad called Diemer an outstanding legislator.

Diemer is survived by his wife of 58-years, Lois, two sons, a daughter and four grandchildren.

The longtime New York Yankees fan was heavily involved in the Cedar Valley community for decades, and was a member of The American Legion, AMVETS, Rotary Reserves and Nazareth Lutheran Church.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 Saturday morning at Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls.
