Denver mock car accident shows dangers of distracted driving

Area authorities are reminding everyone of the dangers of drunk or distracted driving, especially high school students as they hold proms all across the area.

On Wednesday, Denver emergency officials played out a mock car accident. The accident is meant to show the dangers on the road, as Denver's High School students prepare for the upcoming weekend's prom.

Although it is just a mock situation for some people in Denver, the accident hit too close to home.

"It was in the 80's, my daughter lost a classmate on prom night and there were three others injured," said Peg Abbas, "It was devastating. It shocked the town."

Denver emergency officials used that 1980's prom crash, even with a hearse that was part of prom night years ago.

"It's extremely important to keep out kids safe," said Brent Stock, Denver Firefighter.

Stock hopes the students in Denver are safe from alcohol and other distractions while driving.

"I know that each one of those kids text while they drive. The study just showed that it's 23 times greater if you're distracted you're going to be in an accident," said Stock.
