A four-year-old girl is dead after she was mauled by a dog in Prairie City on Monday.
Prairie City Police were called to 300 South Marshall Street on Monday afternoon.
Jordan Arndt, age 4, was bit by her babysitter's American Staffordshire, one of several breeds referred to as a pit bull. Arndt was at the babysitter's house at the time and was then flown to a Des Moines hospital for treatment.
Her grandfather says she was taken off of life support Tuesday afternoon and died soon after.
Jordyn's family believe the little girl tried to pet the dog when it attacked.
"She just loved everything. She loved life. She loved animals. She just loved everything," Grandmother Virginia McCuen said. "She was a special little girl and I just want her back but that's not gonna happen."
Neighbors say they complained about the dog before.
"My children, I have three boys here at home, I have seven nieces and nephews that go over to visit their grandmother," Neighbor Kristen Cleverley said. "They're not allowed to be outside when the dogs are outside."
The investigation into the incident continues. Police had no comment on pending charges in the case.
