UPDATE:  The Clayton County Sheriff's Office has identified the man found in the car as 74-year-old James Halverson of Elkader. 

 

PREVIOUS STORY:

The Clayton County Sheriff's Office says deputies found a missing man and his car in the Turkey River on Sunday.

Chief Deputy Ryan Johnson says they received a report of a missing elderly man at about 3:20 a.m. Sunday.

A search found tire marks going into a ditch and then into the river near Ten Mile bridge on Chariot Road.

When daylight broke on Sunday, searchers found the vehicle in the Turkey River about 250 yards down river from where it went in.

The vehicle and the man were both recovered from the river. The man's name is being withheld until all family members have been notified.
