Waterloo man charged with a hate crime after bar beating

A Waterloo man is charged with a hate crime for allegedly beating another man outside a Waterloo bar.

Waterloo police say the incident happened March 23rd outside the Packers Inn on Rath Street in Waterloo.

Police arrested 27-year-old Mitchael Baruth Friday.

They say Baruth had seen two men kissing in the bar and followed one of the men into the parking lot.

Police say he allegedly tackled one of the men and started beating him while yelling homophobic slurs.

He faces assault charges and could spend up to two years in jail.
