Southbound 151/52/61 near Dubuque could close this week

The Iowa Department of Transportation says the southbound lanes of 52/61/151 could close as early as this week as work continues on the major improvement project.

The Iowa DOT is reconstructing U.S. 52/61/151 from the Grandview exit to the U.S. 52 intersection on the south end of Dubuque.

The project, which includes the replacement of both existing bridges spanning Catfish Creek, installation of a median barrier, and improvements at the U.S. 52 intersection with U.S. 61/151, already has northbound and southbound traffic reduced to one lane in each direction.

Once the southbound lanes are closed, that traffic will be diverted to the northbound side, creating head-on traffic on the northbound side. They will also close the ramp from Grandview Avenue to southbound 52/61/151. These changes are expected to last for the entire 2013 construction season.

All ramps and lanes will re-open for the winter months. Phase two of the project will start in 2014.
