Cedar Rapids police say a man has been charged in five of six robberies that happened in the city on Monday morning.
Officers were first called to the Casey's Store at 3349 Mount Vernon Road SE at 2:30 a.m. Police say a black male with a bald head and facial hair and wearing a green coat walked into the store, showed a gun and demanded cash. He was last seen headed west away from the store with an undetermined amount of money.
About 45 minutes later, officers were called to the Hometown Inn and Suites at 3315 Southgate Court SW. Police say a black man wearing a bandana over his face walked into the hotel and demanded money. No weapon was shown. He left the hotel headed in an unknown direction.
Then, at about 4:45 a.m., police were called to the Casey's at 20 Miller Avenue SW. Officers say a black man with facial hair and a green coat walked into the store, showed a gun and asked for money before heading west away from the store with an undisclosed amount of money.
About 20 minutes later, another armed robbery was reported at the Casey's at 3625 Edgewood Road SW. The suspect is described as a black man wearing a green or gray jacket. Police say he walked into the store, showed a gun and left eastbound with an undisclosed amount of money.
Than, at around 6:00 a.m., officers were called to the Kum and Go at 2504 16th Avenue SW. Police say a black male with a green jacket and facial hair walked into the store, showed a gun and left with an undisclosed amount of money. They say he headed northbound from the store.
Police say the final robbery happened at 6:50 a.m. at the Kwik Shop at 4201 Center Point Road NE. Officers say a black man with a green or gray jacket walked into the store, showed a handgun and took small bottles of alcohol.
Police say he ran across Center Point Road NE in front of a marked police car, looked at officers, threw the items he took, and the gun, and then ran behind Wendy's and circled back towards the store.
As the suspect crossed Center Point Road NE for the second time, two drivers pulled in front of the man to try and slow him down. Police say it helped and they were able to taser him and arrest him the Clark's Pharmacy parking lot at 1946 42nd Street NE.
The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Rayshawn Cribbs, was taken to a hospital to be checked out after being tasered and then was taken to the Linn County Jail.
Cribbs is charged with five counts of first degree robbery. Investigators have connected Cribbs to all robberies except the one at Hometown Inn and Suites.
Cribbs faces up to 25 years in prison for each charge.
