Piles of scrap metal are helping a local veterans organization.
This weekend, the Cedar Falls Amvets Post hosted its annual scrap metal drive. Several dumpster loads of metal and broken appliances were collected, and the mounds of metal will all be cashed in. The money raised will support several Amvets programs in the community.
"Well we do a scholarship. Once a month we take stuff down to the vets home in Marshalltown. We also help out disabled vets that come back and maybe they don't have the resources they were expecting," said Cedar Falls Amvets member Mike Moore.
Last year the Amvets scrap metal drive raised about $2300. The post says its a great way to help people clean out unwanted items, and support area veterans at the same time.
