Des Moines Police in standoff with man locked inside a home

A standoff that started last night in Des Moines continues Sunday morning. Police said a man locked himself in a home on the north side of Des Moines after shooting at officers.

Our NBC affiliate in Des Moines, WHO, reports around 5 p.m. Saturday, officers were called to a home in the 3100 block of Wright Street for a dispute. Police officers said someone then called to say the man was suicidal and had a gun.

Officers on the scene said the man became angry as they tried to talk to him, he yelled at officers and fired at least one shot at them. Officers fired back, but don't believe the man was injured. Hostage negotiators have been talking to the man by phone as he remains locked in the house alone.

Police blocked off a three block perimeter in the area of Wright Street.
