Cedar Rapids celebrates Earth Day early at Eco-Fest

In Cedar Rapids, people celebrated Earth Day a little early. The fourth annual Eco-Fest took place Saturday in the New Bohemia district.

People could learn how to be more green at home. There was a nature play area for kids and a demonstration of how to cook without using electricity.

The purpose was to show people the many ways they can make small changes that have a big impact in helping the environment.

"Our goal is just to help educate people about caring for the earth and inspire them to start caring," said Emy Sautter, Eco-Fest Planning Committee.

More than 20 organizations had exhibits at this year's festival, from AmeriCorps to local businesses, like the NewBo Bike Collective that restores old bikes.
