Dyersville committee says Field of Dreams project permits are illegal

Some Dyersville residents are voicing concern with the developments of a new tourism facility. One group, the Residential and Agricultural Advisory Committee, believes the Field of Dreams Project Permits are illegal. The committee believes there is a significant issue with the properties rezoning plan, which was passed back in August by the Dyersville City Council.

The committee says when the Dyersville City Council okayed ordinance 770, the council relied on a legal descriptions that included only 153 acres of the property that Go The Distance Baseball, LLC. purchased under contract.

R.A.A.C. says the council's rezoning action impacted an additional 40 acres of land not owned by Go the Distance Baseball, LLC. They say that land is actually located in Dubuque County, making it not subject to the jurisdiction of the city of Dyersville. The committee goes onto say this is not a simple typographical error. They say it can be seen in every public notice regarding the proposed rezoning brought fourth to the city including such resolutions as resolution no. 50-12 establishing an urban renewal area.

In a statement released by the R.A.A.C., the group says they take no pleasure in bringing this mistake to the attention of the city council and the citizens of Dyersville.

Sue Hess lawyer for the R.A.A.C. was unable to comment on the issue.

Denise Stillman, President of Go the Distance Baseball, LLC. did not return our calls.
