Waterloo scored 5 times on Friday night, and they needed every one of them to defeat Fargo 5-4. The Black Hawks victory tied their best of 5 series at 1-1.
The first period saw a flurry of scoring opened by Fargo's Gavin Bayreuther as he drilled a hard wrister past defenders from just inside the blue line for a 1-0 edge. Waterloo countered with 4 unanswered goals. Ian McCoshen drilled a hard one-timer from long range that would reach the back of the net. Just 22 seconds later on a rush, Brandon Salerno slid a pass past the defense to Austin Vieth who would tip it in from in front of the net. The Black Hawks added a gold from Ryan Papa on a scramble in front of the net and got another on a hard shot from Victor Newell to lead 4-1 after the first.
Vieth would score his second early in the second period, but a pair of late Fargo goals pulled the Force within 2 going to the third period. Fargo managed to get just one from Dave Gust, however, in the final period as Waterloo held on for the win.
The victory was the 9th for the Black Hawks in their last 10 games. Waterloo will host game 3 at 3:05 PM on Sunday.
