NORTH LIBERTY (KWWL) -

After North Liberty received 8 inches of rain in a 28-hour period, city officials have been dealing with street flooding and an overwhelmed sewer system, according to officials.

Flash flooding and clogged drains have taken up much of the time of the city's public works department, though the city thanked residents for helping clear drains in a press release Thursday.

The city also noted its wastewater plant had been operating at 100 percent capacity even with bypass of the normal sewer collection processes. Residents are asked to limit and reduce their water and sewer use at this time, the city said in a release.

North Liberty residents with water damage to their property are asked to email city officials, according to the City of North Liberty.

Residents with property damage from flooding are asked to email Tracey Mulcahey at tmulcahey@ci.north-liberty.ia.us.
