Manholes overflow into Dubuque streets

Several sanitary sewer overflows occurred Thursday morning on three Dubuque streets.

West Locust Street, Rosedale Avenue and North Booth Street all saw sanitary sewer backups due to flooding in the area, resulting in manhole overflows, according to the City of Dubuque Public Works Department.

City officials said they had to pump water into sewers in those three streets so homes in the area would not experience sewer backups.

Those storm sewers will eventually drain into the Mississippi River.

Bypass pumping has been completed on North Booth but continues on Rosedale and West Locust, according to officials.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources asks people to keep children and pets away from the three streets for a period of 48 hours.
