Indian Creek flooding prompts emergency flood measures

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Cedar Rapids staff have enacted emergency flood protection measures because of rising water levels on Indian Creek.  Cottage Grove Parkway SE has been closed.  Emergency flood protection is being installed along Cottage Grove Parkway SE starting at Sundland Drive working to the east.

Public works crews have put up door-to-door notifications along Cottage Grove Parkway giving people time to move cars.

Significant flooding is being reported on the upper end of the Indian Creek watershed in Marion. The northern part of Cedar Rapids has received 4 or more inches of rain at some locations in the last 24 hours.

Thomas Park, Legion Park and the Boyson Trail system are all closed.

Elsewhere in Cedar Rapids, J Street SW is closed at Prairie Creek. Traffic should seek alternate route.
