Seeds planted for new Cedar Falls co-op

Early developments for a new community-owned grocery store in the Cedar Falls are sprouting up.

A "co-op," like the one being proposed, is owned and governed by those who purchase its goods, although one does not need to be a supporting member to shop at it.

The store is still a few years from becoming a reality, but committee members express interest in locating in or near downtown Cedar Falls, possibly within the emerging River Place development. Those involved envision a full-service grocery store with an emphasis on healthy, local, and organic goods.

Interest in the project emerged after Roots Market, Cedar Falls' lone organic grocery store, closed this past September.

Those interested in learning more or becoming involved with the project are encouraged to visit
