Waterloo gymnast qualifies for Nationals

Posted:
WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Sixteen year old Sydney Hogan is set to compete against some of the best.  The Waterloo gymnast finished 7th at the level 10 regional meet in Saint Louis.  That spot qualified her for national competition next month in Minneapolis.  Level 10 competition is considered elite and sits just one step below the Visa Championships.

Hogan finished well in the all around, but shined in her specialty the balance beam.  She scored 9.95 to win the regional title on the apparatus.

"All year I've been hitting beam pretty consistently," said Sydney, "but I really hadn't hit the routine that I knew I could do, and at regionals, it really just clicked, and I hit it, and it ended up working well."

Sydney Hogan will compete at the national meet on May 11.
