Waterloo Police warn about IRS scam

The Waterloo Police Department is asking the public to watch out for a scam involving an IRS refund.

The scam is an email that quotes the Internal Revenue Service code saying people are eligible for a tax refund.

It provides a link and asks for personal information including name, address, Social Security number and date of birth.

In an email to KWWL, Captain Tim Pillack said that after taking a closer look at the email it shows it was sent from "irfis" and not the IRS.

The police department wants to remind everyone to never give out personal information on the Internet.
