WATERLOO (KWWL) -

"Not very often you get to do something with all three of them, all three of us," said Herman Kruse, a Korean War veteran.

He added, jokingly, "Even though we don't get along."

Herman -- along with his two brothers, Harold and Eldo -- share a special bond. All three of them served in the military during the Korean Conflict.

"That was during the draft years. They just send you a letter and tell you when you're going to go," said Harold Kruse. "When your number came up, you went."

On Tuesday, the Kruse brothers' numbers came up, but this time it was to Washington, D.C., on the Honor Flight out of Waterloo.

JoAnne Miller, Eldo's daughter, is accompanying him on the trip. She says she is ready to hear all the stories these veterans have to tell.

"I'm excited," said Miller.

This is the first time in Honor Flight history that three brothers have gone on the trip.

The Honor Flight program takes veterans to Washington, D.C., free of charge to see the memorials built in their honor.
