Dubuque's Third of July Fireworks and Air Show to go without military planes

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Dubuque's annual Third of July Fireworks and Air Show over the Mississippi will be without its U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team and A-10 East Demonstration Team.

Federal across-the-board budget cuts called sequestration are forcing the U.S. military to bow out of air shows, including Radio Dubuque's annual Third of July festivities. That includes the A-10 East Demonstration Team, which has appeared in Dubuque's air show for 17 consecutive years.

Perry Mason, Radio Dubuque's general sales manager, said, "We'll still have an air show. It won't include the US military, and we'll have a heck of a fireworks display that's all dedicated to the men and women of the armed forces that give us the freedom we have today."

He said Radio Dubuque will be contracting with private pilots for the air show and is currently talking with a private parachute team.
