Effort to revitalize flood damaged neighborhood

An effort was underway today to engage the community of a neighborhood badly damaged in the floods of 2008. The Pop Up Time Check event was held in Cedar Rapids.

Iowa State students partnered with cedar rapids businesses and organizations to put on the pop up. Students designed the event in an effort to temporarily transform the Time Check area in hopes of creating a lasting impact.

"We put up these temporary installations that hopefully have a long-term impact, helping people to see their community differently," said Daniel Bennett, Coordination team. "Helping them see possibilities."

The event was held at the intersection of K Ave. NW and Ellis Boulevard, where still many lots are sitting empty and have since the 2008 floods.
