First look inside expanded learning center

Saturday, people could get their first look inside a new learning center at a Linn County park. It was the grand opening for the Wickiup Hill Learning Center expansion in Toddville.

The new environmental education center is much larger than the old building.

The project cost $3.8 million and was funded by government and community grants as well as donations. All of the new exhibits at the center incorporate hands-on learning for kids.

"That's a key part of these new exhibits," said Kari Lammer, Community Outreach Manager. "Everything is touchable, playable. There's scent stations. So we're teaching kids to learn by sight, sound, and touch."

Wickiup Hill also has an outdoor learning area with trails, a wildlife viewing area, and a wetland boardwalk.
