CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

A memorial service was held for Spc. Donny Nichols, a Shell Rock native who died while serving in Afghanistan two years ago.

Nichols died after a roadside bomb struck the vehicle he was in. He was part of the 1-133rd Ironman Battalion based in Waterloo.

Dozens of friends and family members met at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls for a service just before 1 p.m. Saturday.

The people prayed and shared memories of Nichols.

Nichols' brothers, Nick and Joe, led a graveside toast of Jack Daniel's in honor of his brother.
