"Heart of a Student" encourages high school students to go to college

Dante Means and Travis Lloyd presented at a Young Leaders in Action Conference at Allen College in Waterloo. The conference included more than 140 high school students from nine eastern Iowa schools.

Means and Lloyd first teamed up in 2007 to help inspire foster kids. Lloyd grew up in the foster care system.

"Success against all odds is possible. No matter where you've been, there's always a possibility of going where you want to go and there's always a way to do it and a college education is one of the ways we did it," said Travis Lloyd.

Getting a college education is the focus of a new partnership between Lloyd and Means.

Dante Means started Heart of a Student, which is a program offering information on college to high school students.

"College access, taking ACTs, filling out FAFSA and sometimes we even have college recruiters are on hand filling out applications.

Means is a University of Northern Iowa graduate, recruited Lloyd. Lloyd started Changing Lives Entertainment and musicians The Brazilian 2wins to help him spread his college access message to schools across the country.

"I push college and universities for the simple fact students will be able to network into their dream position, their dream career. Great gateway to dreams," said Dante Means.

Dante Means and Travis Lloyd pride themselves on offering good information in an entertaining way. It gets the students excited, and more importantly, interested in their message.

Heart of a Student just started presenting to schools this semester, but is already booking up quickly for next school year.

Means and Lloyd will bring their presentation to Waterloo East High on Friday, April 19th.
