IRS offers tips for last-minute tax return filers

Taxpayers have until Monday, April 15th to file for their returns on time.

With just days until deadline, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is reminded taxpayers to review their tax returns for common mistakes.

It recommends people file electronically to reduce errors.

Tax professionals say this is a busy time of year, as last-minute filers make their appointments.

"It's one of those things that nobody likes to do," said Certified Public Accountant George Amling.

Amling has been helping people file taxes for more than 30 years.

"You can sense some accomplishment when you've done a good job," he said.

The IRS recommends people review all figures and attach all required forms before filing their returns.

For taxpayers who cannot meet the April 15th deadline, requesting a filing extension will prevent late filing penalties.

An extension can be filed by using an IRS Free File or Form 4868.
