UPDATE: Services set for former Cedar Rapids Fire Chief

Services have been set for former Cedar Rapids fire chief Edsel McMickel who died Wednesday morning at the age of 87.

McMickel, who was the ninth paid fire chief in the history of the department, served the department for 40 years.

McMickel was hired on November 16, 1950, was promoted to chief on February 16, 1971, and retired on March 16, 1991.

Visitation will be at First Lutheran Church, 1000 3rd Avenue SE, on Friday, April 12th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m..

Funeral services are Saturday, April 13th at 1 p.m. at First Lutheran Church.

The Cedar Rapids Fire Department Honor Guard will pay tribute to Chief McMickle's 40 years of service his visitation and funeral.
