Marion woman correctly guesses when car falls through lake, wins $1,000

A Marion woman has won $1,000 for correctly predicting to the minute when a car would fall through the ice on Lake Okoboji.

Paula Schwers guessed the correct time of 1:51 a.m. last Thursday.

The Spirit Lake Sunrise Kiwanis Club and the American Red Cross sell tickets for the fundraiser each year.

Each ticket holder then guess what time he car will crash through the melting ice.

The engine and all of its fluids are taken out before its put on the ice in order to not pollute the lake.

Last year, it took the plunge mid-March.
