Area students combat animal cruelty

Area students are making a difference when it comes to preventing animal cruelty and neglect.

Sixth-graders at Blessed Maria Assunta Pallotta Middle School teamed up to educate community members on the facts of animal cruelty. They constructed brochures on animal neglect and proper bedding for animals, calling cards with phone numbers for local animal services organizations, and even coloring books with tips on animal care.

Their efforts culminated at Waterloo City Council last week where they presented their research and awarded Waterloo Animal Control Services with a $250 check from a fundraiser/supplies drive that they held at their school.

The students hope to have local animal abuse laws reviewed and people to be better informed on the issue as a result of their project.
