Second anniversary of Tornado touchdown in Mapleton

Two years ago today an EF3 tornado hit the western Iowa town of Mapleton.

No one was seriously hurt but more than half of the town was damaged.

Officials say the tornado destroyed 46 homes, 21 businesses, and hundreds of trees.

They city has mad their goal to get Mapleton back to the way it was.

Marie Whiteing is working to help build new memories. She's the executive director of the Rebuild & Recover Mapleton Committee

"When you move into recovery, it requires a lot of planning. Just because you lost a tree, for instance, doesn't mean you should plant the tree in that same place," said Whitening.

City leaders say it could take more than a decade to rebuild Mapleton.
