Northeast Iowa charities get surprise grants

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Tuesday, 25 area high school students presented seven Cedar Valley non-profits with a surprise grant. "Grant Mobile" is a project through the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa's "Teen Trust" program. The program is designed to give students first hand experience with charitable giving and the grant making process.

"The feeling of knowing more about the grant making cycle and how there are other non profits out there than just the ones you sometimes hear about everyday," said Jenna Manders, Teen Trust student director.

Teen Trust has given over $150,00 to charitable foundations since its founding in 1994.

Here's a complete list of this year's recipients, which collectively were awarded $10,000:

  • Allen Memorial Hospital
  • Cedar Valley Preschool and Child Care Center
  • The Job Foundation
  • North Start Community Services, Inc.
  • ASPIRE Therapeutic Riding Center
  • Operation Threshold, Inc.
  • Northeast Iowa Food Bank
