Suspect in Dubuque vandalism incident at Wahlert High School turns himself in

The man accused of breaking three glass doors March 26 at Wahlert Catholic High School in Dubuque turned himself in to police Tuesday morning.

On March 26 someone used a baseball bat to break the glass in three doors at the high school, causing nearly $800 in damage.

After reviewing the school's surveillance video, releasing photos of the individual to the public and receiving information, police were able to issue a warrant for 18-year-old Austin Lovett of Dubuque. Police say Lovett admitted responsibility for the damage after they found evidence at his home.

Lovett turned himself into police Tuesday morning. Dubuque County prosecutors are charging him with third degree criminal mischief, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by spending up to two years in prison and paying a fine of up to $6,250.

He appeared before a judge Tuesday morning and was released on a $2,000 signature bond.
