PARKERSBURG (KWWL) -
Saturday morning in Parkersburg, people gathered to plant trees at the city's golf course. The golf course took a direct hit from the Memorial Day Weekend EF-5 tornado in 2008. Every tree was lost...as were many other homes and buildings in the immediate area. More than 100 volunteers helped plant trees across the golf course Saturday.
"We have a student organization or student leaders who came up with the idea last winter to raise money and plant some hardwoods out here where the tornado took all the trees five years ago in 2008", said Chris Schrage, UNI Professor.
More than 2000 oak trees are being planted as part of the project.
