Kolach bake raises money for clean water

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Picking up some sweet treats in Cedar Rapids Saturday helped a good cause.

The parishioners of St. Ludmila's Church fired up their ovens for their annual Kolach Bake.

The money raised goes towards the St. Francis' Sister Water Project which brings clean water to people in Honduras and Tanzania. Since 2007 the bake sale has raised more than $25,000 for the project.

Why kolaches?

"It's the best thing to do, you know, and I always say there's no happier place to be at 6am in the morning than at a kolach bake," said Sister Mary Lechtenberg, Pastoral Associate.

The baking process started at 2 a.m. and wrapped up around 10:30 a.m. Parishioners were able to stop by anytime during the day to pick up their orders.
