Lawn experts offer Spring yard care tips

The nice weather might have some folks itching outside to do yard work, but some lawn experts warn it might be too early.

Danny Moulds is the owner of Wapsie Pines Lawn Care and Landscaping in Cedar Falls. He's been in the lawn care industry for more than 10 years.

Moulds said the ground is still too cold for planting, but recommends people use the first two weeks in April to tidy up their yards.

"There's still a little bit of snow and ice behind some homes," said Moulds who recommended holding off on planting until the ground is at least 53 degrees.

"Everybody's tired of the doom and gloom of winter...hopefully we'll start seeing some green grass coming soon, things budding and things really starting to push forward," he added.

Moulds said last March, his employees had already mowed yards two or three times.

He said this year is more of an average Spring with colder weather lingering on a bit longer.

"Mother Nature can be very good and very bad for business," he said.

Moulds said Wapsie Pines nursery and greenhouse will open on April 15th.

The business has a larger event planned for May 2nd where more flowers, shrubs, and trees will be in stock.
