FAA will delay airport control tower closings

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

The Federal government Friday announced it will delay the closing  of149 airport control towers nationwide, including the tower at Dubuque Regional Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration announced last month what towers would close due to across-the-board budget cuts. That list included the tower at Dubuque Regional Airport.

The first towers would have shut down Sunday, but now the FAA says the closures are set for 15th.

The delay comes after trade groups representing the companies that operate the towers filed a lawsuit against the FAA.  The agency also says about 50 operators and communities have indicated they would pay to operate the towers themselves, and those details still need worked out.
