Fire causes water damage at Delaware County Community Center

A fire is being blamed for water damage at the Delaware County Community Center.

The Delaware County Fair Society says a small fire started in a freezer on Wednesday and spread to a nearby wall.

The sprinkler activated and put out the fire, but caused water damage to parts of the building.

Facilities Manager Jeannie Domeyer said in a written statement that damage was extensive in some portions and minimal in others, and noted they hope to have restoration completed in 3-4 weeks.

"At this point we have contacted all of the upcoming events that we might not be able to accommodate," she said. "The community has been great in responding to our needs and gracious in their flexibility to move venues."

The Fair Society has moved their business office to the Pavilion and are operating as normal.

Those who have questions or concerns about their upcoming event can call the Fairground at (563) 927-6449.
