EVANSDALE (KWWL) -
The family of Elizabeth Collins says it is planning a burial service for the young girl, who was abducted and discovered killed last year, and that service will be open to the public.
Heather Collins, Elizabeth's mother, posted on her Facebook page that the service would be held May 4 at 11 a.m. at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery.
"We feel that everyone in the community has given us such much support and has taken her as part of their child," Collins wrote on her page. "We want everyone to have that chance to do the last unbearable step in putting her body in the ground.
"This will just (be) one more step in the healing process, not that this will be any easier but we know with family and friends we get thru this step," she added.
Elizabeth and her cousin Lyric Cook were last seen alive on Friday, July 13, 2012, near Meyers Lake in Evansdale.
Hunters found the girls' bodies at Seven Bridges Park in Bremer County on December 5.
Separate public memorial services were held for Elizabeth and Lyric later that month.
The investigation to find Lyric and Elizabeth's killer continues. A medical examiner performed an autopsy after the bodies were discovered, but authorities have not publicly released the cause of their death.
Authorities have said they are not releasing details of the autopsies because there are details in the autopsy that only the person responsible for their death would know.
