Iowa lifts utilities moratorium for season; unpaid customers may be shut off

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Now that it's April 1, customers who were behind on their utility payments could see their utilities shut off, and utility companies are reminding customers of ways they can pay.

The State of Iowa puts a moratorium on utility shutoffs through April 1.

Alliant Energy reminded customers who are behind on their utility payments that they may be in danger of seeing their utilities, including heat, shut off until they are caught up.

Customers who make no attempt to pay or get set up on a payment plan could see disconnect in services.

"We know our customers rely on our services for comfort, security and productivity, and we want to work with those who have fallen behind on their payments," said Tim Heinrich, director of customer support services. "It's important for customers to contact us so we can review their options and keep them connected."

Alliant Energy customers can visit alliantenergy.com/payonline or call 800-255-4268 to discuss payment options.
