Hawks begin spring in search of a quarterback

Posted:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Spring football beginning Wednesday  in Iowa City-- and among the biggest question marks facing the Iowa Hawkeyes is who will be standing directly behind center.

Who ever wins the starting quarterback job will be taking his snap as a Hawkeye.

That's because James Vandenberg took every single offensive snap for Iowa in 2012.

Right now it appears last year's backup--sophomore Jake Rudock is a front runner--but Head Coach Kirk Ferentz says --a decision could be made later than sooner.

"It's not often where this happens, but we're going in really with a truly open mind. It's not like there's an incumbent there. I don't think anybody has a clear advantage or edge. Jake has had the most repetitions. Being the number two guys last year, he took the most reps in the offense, so that's an advantage for him. But we're really you know, he'll start out because that's how we finished up. "

The Hawks will hold 15 practices this spring.
