State Senate approves Governor-backed education reform plan

DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Iowa's Democratic-controlled Senate has approved Governor Terry Branstad's beefed-up education policy.

Branstad's proposal would hike minimum teacher salaries and provide pay incentives to teachers who take on addition roles.

Several weeks ago, the Republican-controlled House approved a scaled-back version of the policy.

The plan's increase in salaries would be an option for school districts.

Lawmakers now must reach a compromise.
