Iowa City man arrested after shots fired

An Iowa City man was arrested after police say he fired shots after a fight broke out during a party.

Officers were called to the 2000 block of Davis Street at around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. It was also reported that a large number of people were running around the area.

When they arrived, officers say they found a large party at 2024 Davis Street. They determined that shots were fired when the fight broke out. Witnesses told police that 24-year-old Samuel Lee Lockett III had fired the shots and then left. 

Officers say Lockett was found at around 7:30 a.m. on Coneflower Court.  He was arrested after a short foot chase. Officers say Lockett had submerged himself in a creek. They say the found the gun used in the shooting in the creek.

Lockett is charged with interference with official acts and possession of a firearm as a felon.

The investigation into the shooting incident continues.

Police say 22-year-old Emily Miskowicz was ticketed for keeping a disorderly house in connection with the party.
