DUBUQUE (KWWL) -
A former assistant principal at Dubuque Hempstead High School has been released from prison.
The Iowa Department of Corrections says 42-year-old Shane John Oswald was released on parole from the Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility on Friday.
Oswald was sentenced to five years in prison in December 2010 for having sex with a 17-year-old student.
Oswald entered an Alford plea with prosecutors in October 2010 in exchange for dropping the charges of supplying a minor with alcohol and distribution of a controlled substance. An Alford plea means a defendant doesn't admit guilt, but agrees there exists enough evidence to find him guilty if he went to trial.
