CENTRAL CITY (KWWL) -
Alliant Energy says a broken insulator is to blame for a power outage in Linn County on Friday.
Justin Foss, a spokesperson for Alliant Energy, says an insulator on a transmission line broke around 11:30 a.m. causing the communities of Central City, Springville, Stone City and Viola to lose power. Foss says about 1,700 customers were affected.
Crews had the power back on before 1:00 p.m.
Central City Community Schools decided to cut the school day short due to the power outage. Students were sent home at 1:30 p.m.
